Blog Post #4

Hello and welcome back to my blog!

This week we learned about learning and technology standards, and we focused on ELA technology standards. I focused my learning on 4th grade, specifically with the learning standard ELA.4.C.5.2, Use digital writing tools individually or collaboratively to plan, draft, and revise writing. I chose this standard because it is partially the basis for a lot of work that we do in high school and college, with collaborating through the internet being a big part of group projects and studying. Being able to proofread online and give comments to other students is important when it comes to creating and revising work. I believe that with my current knowledge of technology I would be able to implement this standard into my classroom, because it is fairly simple to teach students how to use google docs.

This week we also explored the CPALMS website. Today I found a resource titled "What is an American?" that focused on historical thesis writing and essay analysis. The resource has students evaluate a speech by Howard Ickes and argue whether the argument style is effective or not. I would use this in my classroom to improve students ability to identify the strengths of a speech and create speeches of their own.

Lastly this week we discussed internet searching. This is an important skill for educators because the internet has a wealth of resources that are available if teachers just know how to look for them. I enjoyed learning about advanced searching, because I did not know how to do that before and I liked how it can provide more accurate information. One skill that I know that I don't believe we touched on was using quotation marks to look for an exact phrase. I like using it because if I am looking for the name of a song I can look up the lyric in quotation marks and the song will come up.
